KNOW THE COFFEE

The Luna is a natural and sun-dried Robusta with strong dark chocolate flavour notes. This coffee is best enjoyed with milk and sugar and as a wake up call sort of morning brew! We like this most when brewed in an Aeropress or Indian dabba filter. We recommend the Luna with an accompaniment - cake is good!

KNOW THE PIN

This brass pin has been designed and handsoldered by sculptor, Jinal Patel. Her project, Dookdi started as an extension of Jinal's curiosity about insects. She started first by replicating various insects in epoxy simply to understand them in more detail. This later turned to soft metals. We discovered each other because our internet algorithms converged upon our common love for Luna moths...and here we are!

THE INSPIRATION

The Luna or Indian Moon Moth (Actias selene)

The Luna moth was officially described (read: body parts were measured with a ruler and dimensions were scribbled down with an ink pen into a book) by Jacob Hübner, a German entomologist. We tried to look for his field diaries from India with no luck and are guessing that he found this moth in the collection of someone who had travelled to South and Southeast Asia (where its found) and collected a few specimens. Anybody know more? It could snowball into an interesting story in itself!

The Luna is part of a family of moths that are known for being amongst the largest and also silk-producing. In a forest, a Luna moth would probably feed on native tree species like in the Terminalia family. The same for a biodiverse coffee farm that’s full of shade trees!
