Microlot of the month

NEW COFFEE ALERT | FOR ONE MONTH ONLY

MICROLOT 07 – MUNGAARU MALEY

Its mid May. The forest floor is a waiting fire bed – the smallest beedi is enough to set it alight. Every living being is restless. Small herds of elephants are clustered near water tanks. Even tigers and leopards are common sightings these days. Wherever there is water, there are animals. Coffee plants are under stress too. Those plants that are exposed to full sunlight show dehydrated leaves and soil.

The monsoon needs to come – and come quick.

This month’s microlot is a pre-monsoon coffee. One of the lightest roasts we have done till date, this is definitely best had a cold brew. We love hearing about your misadventures with cold brews. Here is a recipe that works for us:

  • Select an extra coarse grind
  • Steep in a glass jar (1:6 ratio of coffee to water)
  • Stick in the fridge – 14-18 hours is fine (we do 16, don’t go over 20 to avoid woody notes)
  • Pour through a paper filter of some kind to clean it off (but wet the paper through with hot water first). You can also French Press or use a fine mesh sieve
