We decided to do microlots because Indian coffee is simply far too diverse and heterogenous to standardise a roast and call it a day! Also, because we work directly with so many smallholder producers, we end up with beautiful but very small lots of coffee. For e.g. in 2018, 134 women in BR Hills harvested, hand-pulped and segregated coffee for us. This became Microlot 8! Since then, we have tried to play around with coffees that find themselves into small-lot coffees!
MICROLOT 21 | ARABICA PEABERRY
Microlot 16, the Mishrana Microlot was an Arabica Peaberry base blend that you could mix up with other beans. This bean was so delicious that we wanted to do it straight up as a standalone coffee. A Peaberry has such rich and complex flavours that develop because the plant concentrates resources on developing a single pea-shaped bean instead of the usual two, flat beans. The result is a bright brew and sweet with good acidity and a slightly lighter body. Contrary to public opinion, we recommend the peaberry for coffee sans milk.
